About this route
Raja Ampat liveaboards leave from Sorong and usually follow one of two main routes:
- North (Dampier Strait + Wayag) — 10 nights, easier currents, manta focus
- South (Misool) — 10 nights, untouched region, more macro, less boat traffic
- Combined (North + South) — 12–14 nights, covers the whole region
Season
October to April. July–September shuts down in the south because of heavy southern swell. Manta show up most often January–March.
What to know
- The price range is wide. Simple standard (Ambai) runs around 48,000 SEK for 10 nights, premium (Arenui, Dune, Aggressor) 75–100,000 SEK.
- Pick the operator carefully — briefing quality and boat size vary a lot.
- 30+ logged dives is a real requirement, not a suggestion. Currents are the rule.
- Nitrox is free with most quality operators — ask specifically.
Good fit if you
Have 30+ dives, accept long transfer days, prioritize marine biology over comfort, and can set aside 14 days total including flights.
